About H.E. Ayang Rinpoche

His Eminence Choeje Ayang Rinpoche left Tibet with his family in 1959 — he was seventeen. After living for five years at Namdrol Ling monastery in Bylakuppe, India, Rinpoche started to build his Thupten Shedrub Jangchub Ling monastery, also in Bylakuppe.Today, Rinpoche has created four inter-related types of centres:

- Monasteries in South India and Tibet

- A Phowa teaching centre in Bodh Gaya

- Retreat centres in Kathmandu, Nepal and in Kalimpong, India

- Amitabha Foundation Centres throughout the world

The core of Rinpoche’s vision is compassionate activity (bodhichitta) undertaken from pure motivation and supported by strong practice. These three themes — compassionate activity, pure motivation, and strong practice are woven through all of Rinpoche’s talks, activities, and directions. The three are not separate and one gets a strong sense that each supports, even enables the others. Without all three, there is an imbalance. When asked which of the three is MOST important, Rinpoche replied, “…compassionate activity is at the heart of our practice. We can’t ignore it. It is absolutely vital.” Ayang Rinpoche is considered to be the world's living Phowa master. A lineage-holder of both the Nyingma and Drikung Phowa he continues the unbroken line of succession of the Drikung Phowa lamas from Buddha Vajradhara.Ayang Rinpoche was born into a nomadic family in eastern Tibet and was recognized as an incarnation of a Drikung Kagyu lama by a delegation of high lamas including the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa.

Public Talk at Pitzer College 10/22/09

"Buddhist Way of Viewing Death"

Annual Drubchen begins April 18

The Annual Drubchen begins April 18 at Ayang Rinpoche’s monastery, Dechen Choeku Ling, in Mundgod Tibetan Settlement. All the monks, khenpos and rinpoches will be accumulating 1 billion Guru Rinpoche (Vajra Guru) mantras. Presiding over the drubchen will be His Eminence Choeje Togden Rinpoche, from Ladakh.

This year the prayers are dedicated especially to the people of Japan and to all of humanity, that there may be world peace, that all beings may live in harmony, and that the environment of our mother the earth may be protected from destruction.

Ayang Rinpoche requests that all the Buddhist practitioners and monasteries in India, Nepal, Bhutan, Tibet and those associated with Amitabha Foundation world-wide, contribute to this practice and send us (NY@amitabhafoundation.us) their recitations of the Guru Rinpoche mantra to accumulate the 1 billion total.

Mantras may be accumulated and the totals sent in daily between April 18 and the end of the Drubchen, approximately 10-15 days later.

The Guru Rinpoche (Vajra Guru) mantra is:

OM AH HUNG BENZA GURU PEMA SIDDHI HUNG

Letter to the Prime Minister and People of Japan

On behalf of the Amitabha Foundation worldwide, the Drikung Charitable Society in India, and the associated Kagyud Thupten Shedrub Jangchubling Monastic Institute, I send my sincere condolences to the grieving families, the people, and the government of Japan following the recent catastrophic earthquake and tsunami.

On March 13, 2011, the Rinpoches, Khenpos and monks of the Monastic Institute conducted special prayers for all those affected by this terrible tragedy, and made butter lamp offerings to the Buddha on their behalf. A special prayer will be held again on this full moon day, dedicated to them.

Since Phowa, the transference of consciousness at death to the Pure Land of Buddha Amitabha, is my main teaching and practice, I performed it for all those who had lost their lives in this disaster.

We will also dedicate our annual intensive Buddhist practice, the 1 Billion Guru Rinpoche Drubchoe starting April 18, for the people of Japan and for all of humanity, that such natural and man-made disasters in the future may be averted, We request all the Buddhist practitioners and monasteries in India, Nepal, Bhutan, Tibet and those associated with Amitabha Foundation world-wide, to contribute to this practice and send us (NY@amitabhafoundation.us) their recitations of the Guru Rinpoche mantra to accumulate the 1 billion total.

We dedicate our prayers for world peace and that all beings may live in harmony, and with the aspiration that the environment of our mother the earth may be protected from destruction and hence further natural disasters be averted.

With my prayers and deepest sympathy,

H.E. “Choeje” Ayang Rinpoche

Original Letter

Letter from Ayang Rinpoche

Dear All, I send my heartfelt sympathy and condolence to the victims and families who have been severely affected by the strong earthquake that shook Jeykudo- Yushu of Qinghai province on April 14th' 2010. May the people of Jeykudo overcome from the aftermaths and swiftly return to normal life. H.E Choeje Ayang Rinpoche Wed, Apr 14, 2010

2010 Drubchen in Mundgod

This year Venerable Ontul Rinpoche will be leading the Guru Rinpoche Drubchen at Ayang Rinpoche's Dechen Choeku Ling Monastery in Mundgod. Participants at the monastery and world-wide will be accumulating 1 billion Vajra Guru mantras beginning March 30, 2010. Mantra accumulation will take at least 10 days and will continue longer, as necessary to finish 1 billion. Many lamas have said that by contributing mantras to such a great activity, participants gain as much merit as if they did the entire billion mantras themselves. Ayang Rinpoche requests: "This is a great opportunity. Please, everybody join and recite mantras as much as you can."

The Vajra Guru mantra is OM AH HUNG BENZA GURU PEMA SIDDHI HUNG. Report the mantras you have accumulated every day or every few days on this website or by sending them toNY@amitabhafoundation.us or amitabhafoundation@gmail.com.

Donations toward the Drubchen are also appreciated and can be made by PayPal on this website (PayPal deducts a 3% transaction fee). You may make an offering in any amount in the name of anyone living or dead, or just to benefit all sentient beings.

2009 KARMA LINGPA ZHITRO EMPOWERMENT

H.E. Anyang Rinpoche will be giving this empowerment in Vancouver BC, and NY thus providing opportunity for everyone in the West and East coasts of North America to attend.
(refer to notes on “Tibetan Book of the Dead”)

His Eminence “Choeje” Ayang Rinpoche will be giving the rare
“100 Peaceful & Wrathful Deities Zhitro Empowerment”

From the Treasure Cycle of Karma Lingpa
The Profound Dharma of the Natural Liberation
Through Contemplating the Peaceful & Wrathful:
Stage of Completion Instructions on the Six Bardos

These precious teachings and empowerment are not given frequently in the West, as very few Tibetan masters are qualified to bestow these blessings. The empowerment and related teachings include the construction and dissolution of a traditional sand mandala.

According to the Tibetan Buddhist view, the subjective experience of death consists of sequential dissolutions, a process believed to present unique opportunities for the attainment of liberation.

The Tibetan Book of the Dead and Hundred Peaceful and Wrathful Deities (Zhitro, Tib. zhi khro) empowerment and teachings describe the processes of death and rebirth, introduce the accompanying experiences, and prepare one for making the most of these transient opportunities encountered in the bardo (intermediate state) between death and rebirth.
